as usual, no respect

The sun room is now painted, except for the trim. I'm trying to decide if it needs a second coat. I still have plenty of paint. In fact, enough for another room. I trusted a paint estimating program. It told me I would need 2 1/2 gallons, so I bought three, but one covered the whole room and a second coat on one wall. I may do the bunny room with the remaining paint. I was nearly done when Mortimer came up out of the basement. His reaction was "Oh my god, it's the Wizard of OZ!"

The picture does not do it justice. Neither does  artificial light. It's a beautiful green in sunlight, and it actually was a sunny day. I thin it's a very cheerful color. Definitely needs a second coat. I'll have to try a picture in daylight. My camera is not doing it justice. Anyway I like it. It's going to be a plant room and I wanted to brighten things up a bit.

Anyway, Had a nice early dinner of turkey sandwiches. Still have plenty of leftovers. By the way here is the successful roast.

Typepad seems sluggish today. Hving a hard  time inserting pics. Maybe I just need to wait.

Ah, there we go.

Ok, I'm going to go watch  a movie. I think my selection will be Gosford Park in tribute to the late Robert Altman.

In front of the house Public Utilities is digging up the temporary asphalt and tamping down the dirt with a hydraulic pounder. They started at 9AM. In the back the house and deck crew are going at it with a rototiller. Inside the house Arthur is home too, so there is no peace anywhere. At least Mortimer isn't home or I would have to leave. I may do that anyway.

Since there were ungodly noises coming from outside so early, I dragged Arthur out of bed and made him take me to Shakabrah from breakfast. He knew better than to argue. We stopped at the bank so I could get the last of the WAAC checks deposited and from there went to Home Depot to look at paint chips for the plant room.

I'm lusting after a couple of toys but there is no way right now. I have a new dream camera, but it is $2000 and out of the question. I found my dream projector also, but that is $3000 and even more out of the question. Damn.I'm thinking of selling the RBT and going digital. I might get enough for it to cover the digital camera. I need to get it refurbished a bit first.

I was going to work on the house today. Wednesday evening, and I'm not sure how I did it, but I pulled a muscle in my back and I can't bend over. It's off to the side so it's not a disc or anything serious like that, but it is painful. Getting up out of chairs is not fun. It better improve by tomorrow because I have plans. Dolores and I are going to hit some plant sales.

I have put up some more pictures of the kitchen and back yard. You can clearly see some progress.

Construction commences tomorrow on the Great Project. I will do my best to keep up a photographic journal of the proceedings.

I got the deck plans and the bid today and it is eminently affordable. Now to get someone to fix the house.

It's hot and we're cranky.

one big thing out of the way

The old hot tub is gone, finally. I got fed up and called professionals. THey came, pulled it out of the backyard and hauled it away to the dump. It took an hour. The only sticky part was going through the back gate, but removing a piece of the drainpipe on the garage took care of it.

Now we wait some more.

I see how today is going to go

Mortimer came down with a cold.  Guess who is playing nurse. It's going to be a high maintenance day.

I have so much to do. It's two weeks to Seabeck, so I have to start room assignments in earnest and get the name tags made.  I just put out a call for volunteers for a work party to meet on Thursday.

I went to a new doctor yesterday. He'a a psychiatrist. We are going to try some new medications.

I've been invaded by the plague carriers. More later.

i so 'xcited

John, a friend of ours who is a landscape designer, came over this morning to design the replacemnt deck. It's actually extended out to the whole back yard. We talked about ideas; he lives near here and his back yard is similar to mine and I've always admired what he has done with his, so we took that as a starting point. There will be a multi-level deck, and then flagstones out to a sitting area, with flower beds surrounding it. There will be a hot tub and a barbecue. And I would like a fire pit for the winter.When he comes up with a picture, I will post it.

All I need is an unlimited amout of cash.

I never did mention Arthur has gone off for a few days. He has to take an exam to renew his Med Tech certification.. He found it impossible to concentrate around here, so he packed his books and his bicycle and took off for the other side of the state. He will be gone till Wednesday. Mortimer's car is out of commission, so he ran off with mine. That leaves me carless and without the temptation to go running off. So, I guess I will go outside and do some gardening, then come in and try to convince myself to do some of the indoor chores.

cooking pot roast on a hot day

Let me start with something important. Demon Child was a good pseudonym, but the name she fessed up to is better. Therefore, Demon Child will now be referred to as Zany Blue. Take that ZB!

Yes I am cooking pot roast on a hot day. (Hot being 74 deg F, but this is the PNW.) Zany Blue's comment when she saw what I was up to was "You're insane." Yeah,well. I makes sense to me. An introductory issue of Cooks Magazine was delivered here by mistake. There was a great recipe for pot roast in it, and when I get a recipe idea into my head, it has to happen no matter what. It's so happens I am off work today and have time for it.

Not that it's been a teribly relaxing day.

I was blasted out of bed by Mortimer at 8AM in his usual subtle manner, ending up with me covered in hot sauce. Having accomplished that he took off. I packed Jimmy into the crate and drove him up to Seattle for his check up. Now the routine had been Arthur would drop him off about 10 and then mess around Seattle till about 2PM. Now I have plenty things I can thing of to do in Seattle, so I timed it to drop him off in time to get to Seattle Center to see a 3D IMAX film and then do some shopping. So what happens? They aren't busy, they take him right in declare him good to go in 10 minutes and there is nothing for me to do but take him home again. It was too warm to leave the poor rabbit sitting in the car, so I bagged my plans and headed home.

On the way, I get a distress call from Mortimer. I'm not going into all of what happened. Suffice it to say he called Zany Blue over then left her to her own devices. Having nothing better to do, she and I got in the car and headed out to one of the large nurseries, where she was considering applying for a job. She got an application and I got a boxful of plants. (Bad, bad me) We ended up near the lab, so we dropped in to visit and were sent out by Stephanie for an emergency coffee (Iced Americano, trple shot, with cream) We had lunch, stopped at the grocery store, and that led me to the pot roast.

And it's only 4:00.

I hear activity, so maybe Mortimer is back from hibernation. The roast is cooking and I'm going outside to plant my latest acquisitions.

demolition

This was my afternoon project. I am sore all over. My hands are not used to manual labor and are tender as anything. This was an entire half of the deck. What is really scary is how easy it came apart. It was extremely rotted and probably ready to collapse at any minute.

Dmontgo, I got my soil soup started, finally. Now that we have more light in the evenings (damn Daylight Savings Time anyway) I can spread it out after work. By Thursday it should be ready to go.

Thank goodness the weekend is over. I can go back to work for some peace and quiet.
